Where do kittens come from?
Found a kitten?
Are they in a safe place?
Under a garage is good, middle of the road is not. Only move them if they are in immediate danger, otherwise wait at a distance till you have assessed the whole situation.
Do you have a sibling set or a lonely only?
Look around for the rest of the litter, a single kitten may have been abandoned but it’s unlikely that mama would leave her babies intentionally. Sometimes a mama will decide to move her nest, so you may only be seeing half the kittens on either side of the transfer.
Is mama coming back?
Take some steps back and wait and see if mama comes back. It is easier on everyone if kittens come with their mama. We always want to ensure that after raising this set of babies mama gets to a vet for spaying, and her own forever home.
Contacting a rescue
If you’re in Toronto, head to our contact page and send us an email. For kittens found elsewhere a quick google of your city plus cat or animal rescue will give you many options.
Make sure you have a rescue lined up before you start trapping any cats or kittens, You can reach out for more information on assessing a situation (make sure to include a photo if you can!) and getting some instructions on how to trap mama and babies.
Unexpected pregnancy?
If your cat found herself with or expecting kittens please reach out to us via our kitten intake form. We will get back to you within 24 hours to help you come up with a plan for these kittens. In the mean time, mama knows best!
When a litter of kittens is surrendered to Cats Cradle we will help you make sure that that is the last set of babies that mama will have to raise. We will set you up with a vet to spay your lovely lady and make sure that she has maximum enjoyment of the rest of her life.
No room at the inn?
We know kitten season is a busy time for everyone. If your rescue is overwhelmed with kittens, or doesn’t have the infrastructure to care for the little ones please reach out to us. If we have fosters available we would love to help you out and take some transfer kittens. Head to our contact page and send us an email!
